Not all of roatan is as miserable as your experience. For example, Barefoot cay has a built in underground sprinkler system that sprays an environmently ok pesticide and they rake the beachsand everyday to prevent sand flies. Also their south exposure had wonderful breezes all day and night. You just need an upgrade not an island change.
 
And for the record, 5 days after being back my legs still look like I have the measles.

This thread might be older than the dirt I sleep in, but your issues are current and this topic is always worth clarification. You can use a dab of Nasonex, or just get the active ingredient in a suspension ointment:

You should have this before any trip to the Caribbean. The entire zone is full of sand flies, but the Bay Islands has the best of the best. Lionfish-eater is correct, the South side of Roatan is less cursed by far with these critters.
