So, i was wondering if anyone goes back and forth between a backplate and a standard wraparound type bc and what differences they notice? Heres why, presumably if you've gone to a bp/wings you've taken it upon yourself to research and find out whats what etc.

Likely, you are or are going to be a better diver than most at some point because you're likely someone who cares about such things. So now you've improved and gotten your skills up to par and have trim to beat GI3, buoyancy better than AG and look better than Jacques ever did on tv in the water. Now, does it really matter what you use for a bc or have your skills surpassed the equipment? This comes down to that old carpenter with a hammer saying but I was just wondering if at some point it just really doesnt matter what equipment you use. I.e maybe it just doesnt matter at some point and we all still think too much about it.

I fail to understand why buying a bp/wing means that you will become a better diver than most..... Sounds like you've bought some of the marketing.

The fact is, if you have crappy skills in a stabilizing jacket that you'll have crappy skills in a bp/wing.

A bp/wing will indeed make a small difference in your trim but buying a bp/wing will not make you a better planner, it will not give you good buddy skills it will not force you to keep an eye on your gauges, it will not improve your navigation skills, it will not make you stay within your comfort zone and it will not keep you from winning a Darwin award, to mention a few.

I never said a bp would make you a better diver - i said likely you are currently or you are on your way to being a better diver and never linked it to the bp. I based that on the fact that you've likely gone out of your way to research such things and have ended up at a different set of tools. Most people dont start off with them and most couldnt care less if they ever improve and dont really see the need to.

Now what does a bp have to do with the rest of the stuff you mentioned?

Diver0001:

I think you know what he means.

Anyways. I just snagged a single tank adapter just so I DIDN'T have to go back to a jacket.

I couldn't stand the thoughts of not having my gear for singles, match my gear for doubles. Now I will be able to do Mexico (Single ALU80) with the same BP/Wing, back-up lights (My jacket BLOWS for "D"rings) and evrything I love about it!!!

I'm even going to take my new(er) fangled Regs that I use for doubles diving (vs my older single tank set up I used to use).

Honestly, I never want to dive singles again, but since I'll have to on my trips abroad, I have got my second place in terms of gear rigging.

i have no intention of ever useing a jacket style BC again! i do like to dive my old "lord of the D ring" doubles rig every now and then - it beats a BP. It's the diver, NOT the equipment.

:)

OK, i"ll follow you to a point. You seem to be saying that if you carefully choose your gear that you're showing the interest you need to become a better diver. I'll go along with that.

But what about the diver who researches gear and carefully chooses a HUB? Or a Zeagle ranger? OR a transpac II?

As for the rest......

The "other stuff" are core diving skills too that have nothing to do with gear. There's more to being a diver than choosing good equipment.

...yup. I've used two major BP's and wings and IMO didn't care for them as much a a jacket BC. I don't care how the BP and wings forces one face-down into the water when on the surface and I had much more issues with bouyancy than I did with any of the jacket BC's I ever owned.

In fact, the BP and wing is on eBay as we speak! BP and wings, anyone?

Geez another one huh. How much gear are you gonna buy and sell before you realize its your lack of diving skills and not the gear that you buy and sell on a regular basis. You have bought and sold more gear than anyone i have ever seen. I still remember the big fiasco from your former user name with dive gear. Maybe you should invest your money in some classes instead of gear.

I'm looking for one more rig. What's the item number?

What you Bp-ers fail to comprehend that I dive just fine in jacket BC's. My skills are just fine. Because I don't subscribe to DIR nor do I prefer (and like) a BP has nothing to do woth poor diving skills.

Show me where it is written that to have proper diving skills one is required to dive a BP and wing?

How come Jacques never dove a BP if they were SO good?
