Mauifish:
Been thinking a lot about that day back in late part of 1981 since this post started, I see that there is no fatalaty listed concerning Dana Point at that same time though there is a fatalaty in Northern CA @ the same day that all the activity I was at Dana Point. Thinking about it, here is what I now believe. A 20 foot GW was spotted by the helicopter and the life guard station was notified, as the spotter helicopter circled a huge crowd gathered on the beach. My friends and I went to investigate and of course going on hear say, we heard that a surfer was bitten in half very close to where we were. It has been @ 25 years and I am just learning that the surfer that got eaten was in Northern CA. We were in the immediate vicinity of of a 20 foot GW and that was all, all these years I thought that surfer was eaten right down the beach from me that day, what a relief! Funny how people miscommunicate things, thanks for helping me straighten out my story.

lol, that is funny how that story turned out. Who would have thought? Yeah, I noticed that date for the northern attack matching up with your account, so it got me wondering. Well, I"m glad to hear that the panic was unfounded and you guys weren't in too much danger! I hope it didn't make you lose too much sleep.

I saw one off of big rock in Malibu a few years back. 10' or so. You wouldn't think 6'3" and 200 lbs. could hide behind a single kelp stipe, but I managed the feat nicely!

If that's a 9.0, what's constitutes a 10? :D

I think a "10" is rated when you get bitten in half by one of those things. Heck, it might even be an 11.

A 10.0 is when you have complete breach past the sphincter ... a 9.0 is more like pushing cloth ;)

I thought an 11.0 was when you get bitten in half by one, but still make it back to the dive boat?

Did you guys see the show last night on Discovery "Planet Earth - Shallow Seas", that was spectacular especially in HD.....they had a scene that they shot with one of those cameras used to disect car crashes, they slowed this scene of a Great White taking a seal....all I can say is WOW! I don't ever want to be mistaken for dinner.
