I was body surfing with some friends at Dana point in 1981 and noticed a small beach patrol helicopter buzzing overhead flying in circles, there was a lot of activity on the beach several hundred yards away from where we were. Later found out that a surfer was bitten in half by a Great white and the helicopter spotted it swimming away, the pilot estimated it to be 20 feet in length. Scared the hell out of me, didn't surf for a long time!!

This was definitely in the back of my mind while diving last month after the squid run. There were so many Sea Lions in the area where we frequently dive it always made me wonder.....

It's the lack of sea lions in the water that you need to worry about...:D

A good friend of mime had one swim right past him at Santa Cruz, can't remember the wall he was on. He said it could have possibbly been the resident 24'er.
