These guys did their homework! This thing was designed by taking their favorite features from other manufacturer’s backplates, and then creating their own BETTER system. I've got to tell you, I'm extremely pleased...so I'm gonna give them a plug here. And, no they didn't give me a discount or a key man deal...I paid full pop. It even fits my OMS IQ pack...like a glove!!! If nothing else, go to their website and check out their sexy backplate model...hubba, hubba...

Check out their website at: http://www.hammerheadscuba.com/default.htm

You get a SS backplate w/single tank adapters ($99.99) for the price of the other guys SS backplate only. Or you can get aluminum, like I did w/SS STAs for $69.99. Back plate only is $79 for SS or $45 for Al. The workmanship is top rate, and I had no burrs or imperfections on the metal to file...it was perfect right out of the extremely well-packed box. The one or two piece STAs are available by themselves as well...also excellent workmanship/design (I got the two piece). From what I gathered, the guys that make them run a metal shop as their business and also happen to be divers that said: Hey, we can do this better...and for less money! Do yourself a favor and check them out before you shell out big bucks to the other DIR companies (OMS, Dive Rite, Halcyon)!

My 2 cents,

Trey

Ha! I like how in their photo gallery they have a picture of the chick without even any of their gear.

Advertising is so cool. :D

Yeah i've been looking at their products. They do seem sweet, I like the holes around the perimeter. Dont know what id use them all for, but theyre there if I want them and thats more than I can say for some other plates. Can't beat the price.

Definitely two thumbs up for Hammerhead. When my wife saw the website it took more convincing that my second bp purchase (I already own alum + ss sta) was out of necessity and not influenced by the nice 'diver' shown wearing it.

I own one. No complaints. Good plate at a good price.

But better than anything else? Heck no - in fact, I had to spend some time with a file to get rid of the sharp edges that were eating my webbing.

Bummer...mine was perfect! I've looked at the others and mine was decidedly better, with more thought put into it's design...

I've got one. Had to deburr the STA. No biggie about five minutes with a dremel. Real nice though. Feels great in the water. Not to big or small.

If it was the one piece STA, I think it mentions on the website (did I mention you need to check out the website? heh heh) that it's not finished...it has to be deburred. The 2 piece was fine...no sharp edges at all!

I own a Fred T and a Hammerhead. Equally good products but the Hammerhead was
considerably less in cost. I spent about 5 minutes de-burring the web slots which was
exactly about the time Ed told me it would take at the longest. Plate finish overall was
a 9.5 out of 10. Extemely sturdy, well designed, and 10 out of 10 on customer service scale. The sta's are not deburred but they will do it for you if you want to pay for it.
The two piece sta took me another five minutes. So total output of time was 10 minutes to save $120. Lets see, that's five cases of cold ones for me.
Anyway I do the math it keeps coming out the same.
By the way, I bought mine before they had the website but if I saw that model I would
have bought ten.

I bought the aluminum plate and 2-piece STA. No complaints whatsoever. Nice quality for a good price. I like things that simply work as advertised...
