Not familiar with that name, but they appear to be the same as the ones in the second photo at www.halcyon.net/mc/pioneer.shtml

I had the same issue, and noticed by measuring that the gap had actually widened over time. It was pretty easy to bend it closed a little bit-that eliminated the issue for me.
If they're the same, that explains why I didn't notice this last year. Thanks!

I looked at the pic-those are the same ones I have. Bending it back a touch should address your problem.

cheers

Apparently, the reason the Pioneer wing doesnt rub me raw is that my spine is slightly more curved than normal just below the neck.

LOL, UP! You have a very dry wit....

Silly me, to have overlooked such an obvious solution.....

:D

Foam collars the NFL players wear on their shoulder pads around their neck. I especially like the one that looks like a headrest off of some car. Besides that, it will make you look really cool to!

Here are a couple more minor additions to the informal Halcyon complaint list:

  1. The bungee on the left chest D-ring is not very secure. The knot blew out the first time after a year or so. I retied it with a bowline variant copied from another Halcyon backplate, and it held for a couple months. Surely there's a better way to secure this?

Someone forwarded me a link which supposedly allows for secure knots in bungee cord. I'll try it out and report back how it goes.
  2. The shifting of air in the 55lb Explorer wing is startlingly and unaccountably loud, even through a coldwater hood. I've never noticed any audible shifting with my Pioneer wing, so this was an unpleasant surprise on my first doubles dive....especially since I was using the drysuit auto-dump and the lower dump on the wing at the time I first noticed the wing noise. I have to add that I never noticed this with my old 55lb Classic-style wing.
    [/list=1]

Anyone have an explanation for this?

I was going to suggest cutting the handle off (I never seem to use it for anything)...but having just looked at mine, not sure this would solve it, since some of the chafing problem is likely due to the edge of the wing that the handle is sewn into....

Bungee -- I've been using simple square knots on my bungee...both on my BP harness and on the bungee loops I used to have on my old BC, and they have stayed secure. I leave plenty of extra when tying the knots and really make sure they are tight before cutting off the extra. I then use a lighter to melt the ends.
