Agree price is pretty high. I am not looking to buy this reg just interested in trying to id the model and year because it looks like the MR12 III with a different logo. As you posted the MR12 III has what I call the bullseye logo. https://scubaboard.com/community/attachments/iii-jpg.574844/
I've only seen a few of these with the different logo pop up from time to time and was curious if it was a revised model MR12, something else or maybe just a logo change.
Thx
MR12III from the mid-late 80's ... I was in "the business" back then and remember seeing them ...like changing the bumper or headlights on a new model car ..

Can you put a new cover on the Turbo Abyss?

Are MR22 first stage parts hard to come by? I sent my Abyss turbo and MR22 in to get service and the shop I sent it to told me they dont think they can get parts for the MR22. Does that sound right?

While the MR22 has been discontinued by Mares, there should not be shortage of service parts. My experience has been that Mares does a crappy job of keeping stock of parts and getting them to their dealer network. There are some decent sources in Italy and Spain that have an internet presence, that seem to maintain some stock of Mares 1st and 2nd stage parts.

Here is a link to an Italian website that is selling the current Abyss faceplate for 25 Euros.

No, it doesn't sound right. All of the internal parts for the MR22 are either still in use or can be upgraded to something that is still in use.

Is your shop an authorized Mares dealer? If not, then they would have trouble getting parts, but that's because Mares won't sell to them not because they aren't available.

Ask them what parts they need. If your MR22 was never upgraded to the current seat and orifice, then I suspect it needs the 46201386 upgrade kit for around $40 which converts it to the 22X spec and then they can use the standard service kit 46201355 for the 15X/22X/52X/25XR for around $25.

If necessary, you can buy the parts from Europe or eBay and bring it to them. But I'd probably find a different tech who actually wants to work on the regs.

I got these from Maintenance spare parts kit for Mares regulator first stages

They also have 46201830 which is the same as ...1355 except it includes the first stage diaphragm.

Yes they are a Mares dealer and a "Mares Lab" which I thought was highest level. That was just form "the staff" that said that though not the guy that does the service who will be in today. If they tell me no I will figure out how to do it myself with this teams help.

Thanks for the numbers this will help me a lot.

That looks like a standard Abyss 2000 (aka Abyss Turbo) with a cold water kit on the first stage. The Abyss 2000 was what Mares called the MR22 first stage packaged with an Abyss second stage with this particular cover plate. The Mares part name for the cover was "Turbo Flow" which is where it gets its common name. This was the standard version of the Abyss from 2000 through 2004.

It's in pretty rough shape. I can't see bronze in your photo, but they are all made of chromed brass and it's possible the chrome has partially worn away exposing the brass underneath. Hopefully it looks better on the inside. Manuals and schematics are at lowwall.eu5.org (Mares Regulator Service Information)

Here is a slightly nicer pre-2008 MR22 (same as your first stage but without the cold water kit) on the left next to the compact 42 and the 32, which was a lightened version of the 22. In 2008, Mares replaced the full-fat 22 with a slightly modified version of the 32. The 2008 22 body continues to today.
