As I’ve been expecting, GUE has significantly updated their standards. No more is there Rec 1, 2 and 3 (a change in name only, for marketing purposes and much needed) no more is there Fundies Rec and Fundies Tec; no more cordless primary lights.

Some changes are mere nomenclature, many are fundamental organizational changes.

Notably, IMO, the standards have strengthened. Becoming an instructor is much more challenging now.

; no more cordless primary lights.
Cordless lights are still acceptable; see page 158:

The primary light should consist of a rechargeable battery pack and be fitted with aGoodman-style light handle.

When burn time requirements create the need for an external battery pack, it should reside in a canister mounted on the diver’s right hip.

A nice change is the Performance Diver course. I think it will open up GUE to divers who were intimidated by the idea of taking Fundies.
I would imagine it’s similar to UTD’s essentials and a step above their primers classes

It basically replaces Fundies - Rec. Here is a write up about the course:

Page 25 is interesting. WTF...

GUE base equipment configuration as outlined in Appendix A, plus:

a. Snorkel, simple in design, with no purge valves

Upon further reading there are still two Fundies courses:

GUE Basic Fundamentals on Pg. 36 which looks like Fundies Rec.

GUE Technical Fundamentals Pg. 64
