Thanks for the update, I hadn't seen it yet (I'm not on Quest).

I like the change in the valve drill. It makes it much closer to the procedure one would follow in the event of a real left post failure.

But I can't wrap my mind around putting my "utility items" in my LEFT pocket. It's much harder to get to, and it would be worse with stages or deco bottles, I would think. I thought we put things we accessed frequently in the right pocket, and reserve items in the left. I don't know why they would change that.

Here is one reason why (I'm speculating):

Emergency access is easier with your right hand (the world is right-handed, except for the rest of us). It may be that much easier to grasp emergency items in your right pocket as a result. In addition, light is in left, so right hand is free, in an emergency, you can signal, and, say, errr, for instance, get your backup mask at the same time . . . without changing hands with your light (yes, I have been thinking about that lately . . . )

Try to jam a mask and a spool into the flat right pocket many koolaiders had installed for Wetnotes.

I don't like the new valve dril... I was just getting used to the old one.

More practice this weekend.... OY!

that's how i've been doing it all along

i keep my spare mask, spool, and line cookies and arrows on my left pocket, with my wetnotes and EMT shears on my right (thin) pocket

My guess for the pocket side change was to accommodate the right-handed trigger & riding posture of the Gavin Scooter (but you would still have to clip-off the Light, or thumb-hold-it with your right hand while triggering, in order to free-up the left hand to rummage around in the Left Side Utility Pocket).

The X-Scooter T-handle Trigger design can support the new pocket standards, but is much better suited IMO, to the original configuration of Right Side Utility & Left Side Safety (i.e. you can still easily trigger with the left hand while still holding the Goodman Handle of your Light in your left hand, and all-the-while working with your right hand out of the right side utility pocket). . .

For open water, Shouldnt your primary SMB be classed as a safety device?

SMB can be either for safety or utility: deploy it for drifting deco, or in areas of heavy boat traffic. Or use it to float-up a malfunctioning Scooter or used Deco/Stage Bottles. . .
