gue fundies pre reqs

well my problem is i work in the middle east for long periods of time so finding a class i can make it to during one of my periods of time off in a location thats not to far is difficult. im typically in FL for my time off but sometimes i spend it in thailand.

That's nonsence. The vast majority of folks enrolling in GUE-F classes are divers with a good amount of experience including many tech divers crossing over from other agencies. If you are not interested in the discussion simply opt out of the thread...

By moving it to Basic, it would be seen by more divers, not fewer.

I think florida has the the largest concentration of GUE instructors, it shouldn't be too hard.

There is a bunch. Also, it dosn't take too much arm twisting to get one to travel to Slient World Dive Center in Key Largo (GUE Support Center) especially in the winter months...

I still fail to understand why a GUE-F pre-class requirements thread should be thrown into a basic scuba thread. First, with now 36 posts it seems to be doing OK with regard to interest. Second, a class involving double cylinders, manifold valves, canister lights and jet fins is a good distance from the typical discussion about how many dives to accomplish between OW and AOW and who makes the prettiest neon accented jacket BCD. But of course I have been wrong often lately.

There's a problem here in that different people with different backgrounds and different goals see different things in a Fundies course:

Q1: how much experience do you have (25 dives, 100 dives or 2,000+ dives)?
Q2: what do you expect to get out of it (instruction vs. tech pass)?
Q3: how GUE mentoring resources do you have in your area?

The biggest factor there is that either you should plan on taking the course twice, or you must have good mentoring before taking the course. And more experience is not a substitute for mentoring. 2,000+ dives and technical experience doesn't mean that you can cruise through the course and get a tech pass. Somewhere in between 50-200 dives there's probably a sweet spot if you're looking for a tech pass (depending on mentoring and the divers own abilities), but mentoring is still more important than dive count (imo).

I would say that your posts have been needlessly negative and unconstructive. There also may be a reading comprehension issue with you. In fact, I would probably just think better of you if that was the case.

You've once again missed my point, but I'll try one more time for you since you obviously don't get it. My post to possibly move the thread to another more basic section reflected my strong belief that this class is not only meant to benefit those desiring to pursue technical diving in the future. Rather, recreational divers with no intention of ever pursuing technical diving would significantly benefit from taking the Fundamentals class as well. To repeat, GUE-F is not a technical dive class and is meant to teach basic skills. I thought that moving the post to a more basic scuba section would reach a broader audience such as the OP who are early in their dive progression but seeking additional training.

But, you're probably going to miss my point again, so believe what you want to believe. It's a free country, and I have to respect that even if I think you're a moronic or misguided troll.

FWIW, I dare say that GUE-F was much LESS intense for me than my Open Water and Advanced Diver Program classes which spanned over three months each.

Well some folks thinks its way beyond "basic" skills and its only purpose is as a gateway to Tech1 or Cave1 with GUE (thereby converting people to some sort of new religion lol).

In any case I dont think there's any need to move this into a basic scuba forum. The people who seek out DIR training are a self selected bunch and they know how to browse here just as much as they can in basic.
