The real answer on this is simple... Choose blindly. I have yet to meet this infamous subpar GUE instructor...

Saying that, I did my GUE-F class in High Springs with Orie, and he was easily one of the best instructors (on anything) I have met. Very quickly adapted to my style, pushed my limits, and showed great patience.

There are so many good instructors in HS. Interview them. Get their perspective. See who you vibe with.

You have the opportunity to make the most out of it.

Personally, I’d seek out who’s doing the diving you want to do and do the class with them.

Of course. But if choosing among several possibly equally great instructors, maybe a good approach would be to speak with a couple of them on the phone or at least by email and try to get a personality vibe? Even if they are all super-professional, helpful, etc., you can sometimes glean intangible things from the way they speak with you. That said, I have not yet had a GUE instructor I would hesitate for a moment to take another course with.

I have had an PADI instructor who was unwilling to provide instruction to me. I really don't want that happen to me in the GUE courses.

I'm looking to take fundies in High Springs. How should I choose an instructor and what is the typically cost of instruction per day for fundies?

From your dive count it sounds like you are new to diving so I guess your motivation is to take the course for improvement rather than getting a Tech Pass? With that said and from what I have heard, GUE Fundamentals - Rec is going away. There will no longer be two types of Fundies passes. However, GUE is coming out with a new course called GUE Performance Diver. I see they recently put it on the website and some courses have even been scheduled but GUE hasn't spelled out everything yet. From how it was described to me it sounds like what you are looking for and I think it will be great. I hope it will get more newer divers interested in GUE training without being intimidated with Fundies and the Tech Pass goal.

The GUE Performance Diver course is aimed at recreational divers, the GUE Fundamentals at future Tech or Cave divers. The first is a 3-day course, the Fundamentals 4 days.

I mean I hope that my semi-exaggeration was a bit on the nose. My point is that it's not like in other agencies that "it's the instructor not the agency" and a careful interview of your potential future instructor is essential (assuming you have the skills to do it). I know that we agree that with GUE you will get more than what you'll pay with any instructor.

I choose my GUE instructors (for now) completely blindly or just from word of mouth, but whoever truly wants to get the optimal instruction for sure they can search a bit more.
The minimum qualifications of the GUE instructors cover my needs more than I wish for, from the 5-10 instructors I have met and dove with, thus this extra 5 minutes talk is not justified for me.
