I don't know Mike, I dove a few wrecks in Chicago and done numerous weeks in Florida but Mackinac was great and well worth the trip. It may not be convienent at times, but the diving was great.

As for nitrox in Mackinac, as of last July, it was air only. (so bring your own)

All that said, since my wife and I now have a decent boat, we're planning to checkout the wrecks in the Southwest MI preserve next summer.

Well, as you know, I don't have a boat and charter fees for two get pretty hefty. To date, I've been blown out more often than not on Great Lakes trips. I get tired of driving btween 3 and 10 hours only to have lunch and turn around. LOL

Mike,

You just need to be luckier...

I haven't yet gotten blown out. 6 for 6 on trips. I will agree on the charter fees but for the dives in mackinac, $85 for two dives per day was worth it.

First, what a response!!!! Reminds me of the helpfulness of the old AOL SCUBA Forum days!

Good info, I have already contacted Gary Venet - we dove with the R/V Chicago in 2005 and it was great, but Hank shut down operations - this past year w/Bob Shak at www.divechicago.com, and we will do at least one there again next year as well, specially since the "Mack" is there and we can do a one day bonzai, which seems to sell well -

in looking for a different locale, these suggestions are helpful and appreciated - will let the group know what we have decided in case any want to join us

How many divers are you bringing? There aren't any "dive" charters in full time operation but I can get a charter or two set up for you. My boat will be certified and I have a buddy who is a captain with a certified boat as well. We mainly use them for salvage work, (I have mine certified for tax purposes) but would be happy to do a charter or two next summer. I don't care if I make any money on the deal, (as long as the gas gets paid for) so it may work out well. We can dive out of Muskegon, Holland, Saugatuk, and anywhere esle on the lake shore here. Let me know if you'd be interested and I'll see what I can do.
