There is a proposal to move all of the commercial shipping, including Exxon & Texaco (with their tanker trucks) out to the undeveloped, pristine East End, home of some of the finest dives on the island.

A huge commercial dock/marina is proposed that will damage 6-8 sites directly. Residents will not only have no roads left, but will have an amazing view of the commercial shipping industry, including the huge freighters that will be sitting offshore, unable to get into the dock (those who have been diving the East End know how iffy the waters can be there). Then they propose building a huge dock system in the George Town Harbor so they can have up to 10 cruise ships docked there each day.

E-mail or write to:

McKeeva Bush - Minister for Tourism, Environment & Transport, Government Administration Building, George Town, Grand Cayman, B.W.I.

This is important.

It seems that our McKeeva will go to any lengths to get more cruise ships in without taking into account the terrible damage it will do our dive sites and the environment. Not only that but the huge impact it has on the island when 20,000 additional bodies (approx. 2000 on each ship) come onto the island off of the ships... that's 1/2 the population of the island.
You can also email or write to the "Letters to the Editor" for our local paper, the Caymanian Compass.

It doesn't hurt to get the word out in the paper for the locals to read on how this proposal will affect the diving environment.

Of course! Another 100 T-shirt shops will do wonders for the downtown. <G>
