I want to pick up an older, used reg on eBay to be used solely for inflating tires with an adapter. It will never be breathed through or used underwater. My two concerns are reliability and the availability of parts in the event that I need to rebuild it.

Here's what I've found that's cheap on eBay. What's likely to have parts available for the longest amount of time and be suited to the job I have in mind for it?

Sherwood:
Brute
Magnum
Oasis

Scubapro:
MK3
MK V
MK 10

Thanks!

I have an old Brute for that sort of stuff.

Be sure to add an overpressure valve if you only plan to have a QD hose. Should the 1st stage ever develop IP creep you don't want to blow out the hose. In normal use a second stage will go into free flow before things get out of hand.

See the 3rd item down.

I use a Mk2. But I would still dive it if I needed to. Any one of your scubapro choices is supportable with new seats and o-rings are all std. Mk3 and Mk5 kits may be a little hard to find but they use the same seats as the Mk2 and Mk10 repectively. Older Mk2's also show up on ebay fairly often.

Is a tire inflator upstream or downstream?

Is a tire inflater upstream or downstream?

Pressing the inflater chuck against the stem pushes it up stream to break the seal and let air escape. Rising pressure will only seal it tighter. Hence it's upstream.

True for the tire valve activated inflator mechanism. But my manual trigger activated device is downstream (operates like a shrader valve). I may have to see if I can find the attachment to convert it to tire inflator. I had not considered the need for an OPV on that rig. Thanks

I have an old Brut that I use for that sort of thing. Works great and any Sherwood dealer can rebuild them.
