The size of the fish will also amaze you. A 350-500 pound Giant Black Sea Bass will dwarf your normal lake bass, ...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yes size does matter~Lets not let this size thing continue.
A 300 pound BSB is a big fish! a 500 pound BSB is a huge fish!
FYI
The biggest and record BSB was speard off shore at Reef point aka Scotsmans cove by the late Jack Dudley in May 1960 it was 480 pounds.
The record BSB was speared a few years later at San Clem by Bob Stansberry, who has retired to Arizona. It was 518...The record stands unbroken, even after another ten plus years of spearing.
As was and is the requirement that the divers use only basic skindiving equipment- no bubble machines and had to land the fish on the beach or the boat with out assistance.
The majority of the fish I have recently encountered and or viewed in photos are certainly well under the 300 pound range, more in the order of 150 to 200 pounds. Therefore it would probably be correct in stating BSB up to 300 pounds.
These are all great suggestions, thanks! Just what I was hoping for. Just based on the recommendations here, Catalina or something similar seems to be what we're looking for. With my school schedule and everything, we probably won't be able to make it out there for at least a few more months and maybe not even until closer to June... :-(, but that's okay because it will be our first ocean dives and I could use the time to keep improving my buoyancy control, etc.
I am definitely interested in teaming up with a local diver as well, however, to make sure we don't get ourselves into trouble. I'll keep you all on my list and if anyone has any other suggestions about how to find someone willing to show us around, that would be super. Thanks again!!
Dove off the Sand Dollar yesterday. Very laxxed boat, we didnt move around as much as I would have liked but we were also following a storm so were kind of stuck in where we could go because of that. The neat thing about this boat is they do multiple day trips. Our schedule was leave at 8pm do some Catalina night diving then do some day diving the next day and then come home. I dove my absolute limit on normal gas and was never once rushed. Just another idea for a type of boat to hit up.
........ I believe you can do a virtual dive of the Dive Park at the store using a computer program called E-Dive.....
Almost correct ........ you can do a virtual dive of the Avalon Dive Park - from your home - using our dive simulator available here -> www.ediving.us
It is still in beta testing .... (and we need to add more animals / plants to it) ... and it doesn't cost you a penny.
Have fun.
