We were there the year before Wilma. As a Hotel it's okay and probably nicer than most. Probably nicer than the Occidental Allegro but not as nice as the Occidental Grand. The Hotel is acroos the road from the beach but it's a short walk and one of the Hotel's resturants (breakfast & lunch), a swimming pool and the Hotel Dive shop are located on the beach side of the road. They had a large pier with easy access and all the dive operators pick up there. There is a shower and good size rinse tank with fresh water right at the entrance to the pier. It's all pretty well layed out.

It's a 15 to 20 minute taxi ride into town.

We're going to try El Cid (TimeShare) in April of this year but I would go back to the Americana without pause. Fiesta America is also a TimeShare (all inclusive optional) and if it had been available that's probably where we would be staying.

EDIT: I'm not recommending the in-house dive operator. They're probably just fine but they run larger boats.
