Welp - my building is going condo and I don't want to pay $290K for a 1BR w/ a parking spot. So I hafta move. The only question was where. A little over a year ago I got outsourced to a large Consulting/Services company. The majority of folks that do my job work from a home office and travel as needed. So I checked with the boss man and he says I can live wherever I want. Florida here I come. Went down last weekend w/ my brother for a few days in Key Largo to dive the Grove, headed up to Ft. Lauderdale area and did some dives there. Saw a bull shark, and found an apartment just on the other side of the Turnpike from Pompano Beach. So this M&G will be a farewell tour for me - it's gonna suck - we have such a cool group of folks.

So, we should blame that darn bull shark then?

Tim, it just ain't gonna be the same without you here. Two GLWC members in Florida now... anybody thinking what I'm thinking for next (after Sept) Meet and Greet?

ROAD TRIP!!!

Actually kinda funny. Me and my brother were the only ones on the boat. I let the captain know it was our first dives in Pompano, so we wern't terriably comfortable doing a dive bomb onto a wreck 110' down into a current. (They don't have too many permanent moorings on the wrecks down there.) So he dropped a grappel for us to use for decent/ascent. He lines us up to the morring up current, we jump in and grab the line and make our way to the wreck. About 60' off the bottom I see the hook laying in the sand - no wreck... I'm thinking...?!?!??! One we get closer to the bottom the wreck appears about 40' in front of us (The RSB-1). Close enough for a swim into the moderate current... We do our dive and have tons of fun exploring the wreck. Fairly moderate sized wreck - About perfect for the depth its at. You can explore the whole thing in 20 minutes and be ready to go. Right as our computers were ready to get near deco - we figured it'd be a good time to make sure we could get back to the line. We popped up over the side, eyed the line and made a break for it. Once we got about 20' from the line - I eye this massive shark 30' past the line swimming perpendicular to us and think - "Oh ****". Gots to be about 15' long and stocky - as big around as a refigerator... Tres Cool.... I grab the hook and we start ascending a bit. Once we get 10-20' off the bottom we start messing with the line to secure the grappel so we can drift deco w/o having to do the entire ascent hanging onto this 10lb grappeling hook. Talk about a cluster****. The image floating through my mind.

Someone's going fishing - We have a line, a hook, and we're the worms....

We were probably at 80' and we both forgot exactly how to tie any sort of knot. The slack in the rope was bird-nesting all around us. For some reason I was trying to hook a loop into half an inch opening of the carabiner. Finally I realized - just hang the hook through the knotted loop. Finish messing w/ the hook and complete our ascent. About 40' we started hearing the boat maneuvering around us - "cool - he's still up there", we kinda took our time nice and slow ascending after having all the hassle w/ the hook and jumped aboard the boat. Awesome dive....

Now that's an adventure.

I haven't been to Gilboa this year due to spending the summer in Florida. What is Mike charging these days? Any improvement to the parking situation?

Tom,

It is good to hear from you again.

Tim Owens or as he is known on the board Netmage has been evaluating his housing options and even though I had let him in on the secret of living in Jackson, MI he is choosing Florida over Chicago. You remember Tim from his first appearance at Meet & Greet I. Although since that time frame you would will probably remember less of him.

How did you get through the weather over the weekend? Did you end up holding out at the store? Somebody has been trying to get a Meet & Greet together for some where other than Gilboa. I here the theme is "Saltier & Further South" now let me look at my Atlas; yes Florida is south from here.

Hey John,

Yeah, I got it. Tim is moving down to the coast, across I-95 from the beach. I should remember him, he was sitting in my living room after a dive at Port Sanilac a year or so ago.

Things here were pretty good last weekend, actually. The hurricane went by, well south of us, a bit earlier in the week, and off into the gulf. We got the occasional rain, but no high winds or anything. Stayed in the trailer the night the storm was closest to us, and had no problem.

As for the diving here. I have done very little. I met with a couple of the Conch divers on a Jupiter dive boat 6 weeks ago and will be diving the "living seas" at Epcot next Sunday just to say that I have done it. Been really busy with the new business, and we tend to work six days a week, so the only day I can dive is Sunday. Haven't found a "regular" dive buddy like Old Dave yet, but will continue to look as things with the business settle down.

Good to hear from you Mitten!
