We are going to Ginnie Springs and I was wondering if there are any other dive sites that we should visit while we are in the area. We are not from Florida and want to make the most of the trip. I do not want to travel too far from Ginnie, but a few hours would not be an issue. Any ideas?

I appreciate any suggestions.

Blue Grotto is close and a good dive. Here is a link http://www.floridacaves.com/bgrotto.htm

Crystal River for Manatees and Rainbow River for drift diving are also good options for that area.

I will be in Ginnie Springs myself on 9 Feb, when will you be there?

Here are some links to some good Florida Springs resources. When I'm diving Ginnie, I like to stay near Gainesville and usually try to dive several of these: Blue Grotto, Devil's Den, Crystal River and Homosassa River for manatee encounters, Rainbow River/KP Hole Park for river drift dives.

It's a very rural area, but Gainesville has good dining and accomodations within an easy drive of all of the above sites.

If you need help locating nearby springs, you might want to look at this satellite photo with links:

Here's a nice little home movie style video that will give you a good feel for the different springs:

There are also a couple of very good DVDs on the Karst Productions site above. (http://karstproductions.com/KarstStore/store_v_b.html) The two Water's Journey DVDs are about the Floridan Aquifer and are beautifully shot.

Hope this helps,
Grier
