If you are "trying out quarries" in the area, you might also want to check out White Star. I have found the vis there to be supurb. Only major down side is there isn't always fills available- some guys brings a portable "fill station" when it is busy.

Quarry Diver runs the local fill station. If Jeff's not there with his trailered fill station, there are (or used to be) directions on the snack shack to get to his house in town a couple of miles away.

Thnaks for the info, is he usually there on saturdays? my wife only has one tank right now so we will need at least one fill while there. Maybe i can swing buying another this weekend.

I've known them to be there every weekend during the summer, and even some days of the week (but I don't recall which anymore). They were there this past weekend.

Prior to Memorial Day and after Labor Day, they are more sporadic, probably gauging if it's worth his time and/or the weather.

The portable compressor would do most dive shops proud. I'm not sure its Nitrox quality clean air, word has he was working up to doing Nitrox fills. Personally if I was him I wouldn't bother, you have to work hard to need Nitrox at Whitestar. Yes I know it can be done, but you would have to spend a fair amount of time in the crusher.

I'm not sure how big is air bank is, but it looks huge. I wonder where he got it from, its not something you see very often. The VIP would be interesting, but the hydro would be lets say challenging.

Bonnie was saying it was Grade E.

If I remember correctly, I thought I heard that it was the type of low pressure cylinder used on subs... but I might be confusing it with something else.

Thanks everyone for the info. We went to Whitestar and discovered we had gone there about six years ago with some friends. Just didn't remember till we got there, after looking we found the dive in an old log book. It was a nice dive site. we went from the deeper platform and were able to park close to a table in the shade to set up. vis was about 35 ft. We will be going back there again to dive.

Gilboa has hot showers and the restrooms are much nicer but farther away than at Portage. Gilboa has porta-john close to the docks, however. The restrooms at portage are much worse in the summer than any porta-john I've ever been in as they are a big outhouse. However, Portage is an interesting quarry and I'll dive it again.
