A 54-year-old German woman unfortunately lost he life when she was diving at Dwejra, in the limits of San Lawrenz, Gozo.

The accident occurred at about 12.30 p.m.

Police officers and a medical team from the Gozo General Hospital went to the scene, together with Civil Protection personnel and members of the Armed Forces. They found the woman on land, after she had been brought ashore by people in the vicinity.

Despite medical assistance at the scene, the woman was pronounced dead.

Magistrate Simone Grech was notified and set up an inquiry. Police investigations are ongoing.

Some facts:
This lady was in a group of 3 unguided divers.
Weather conditions were not benign, with strong winds and waves coming straight into the shore.
None of the bigger dive centers visited the Blue Hole dive site that day (she was extracted from the sea at this location).
