A giant stride has nothing to do with this because it was a shore entry.

Not arguing on what type of entry this was, but I quite frequently giant stride of a pier for shore entry diving..

I should have said shore as in beach or rocks.

Yes but....... with all due respect that is not relevant to the accident under discussion here. As the man said "A giant stride has nothing to do with this because it was a shore entry." The this being this accident.
 
I will ask a question - as I don’t dive a twinset. If he didn’t panic, and was somewhat experienced why wouldn’t he ditch his rig and swim up or even popup passively if he is in a wetsuit?

It's theoretically possible as a healthy person should be able to function for ~1 minute without breathing, on O2 in their bloodstream and lung space, but if you haven't practiced this, the emphasis is very much on "theoretically".
