Location
North Carolina
Located in Charlotte, NC and we are trying to find someplace where we can practice our new skills. We don't really want to drive all the way down to middle/southern Florida quite yet. Anyone have any suggestions for a good location for newbies? We want to go someplace where the water isn't frigid and the visibility is half decent. NC coast isn't a big interest at this poiint.

Thanks folks.

ooops. Forgot to mention that we are trying to find an ocean location. We'll be doing a bunch of quarry diving for skill practive also but we are trying to find some salt water in which to get our feet wet.... so to speak.

Check out the Deep South Dive threads and the Florida Conchs.

Most ocean sites would be located from Hilton Head, SC to Savannah on the Atlantic side. Then you would have the Florida Panhandle, Panama City Beach and Destin, FL are two other dive site areas.

South Carolina around Myrtle Beach has some dive sites suitable for newbies. My first ocean dive was at Barracuda Alley. It is about 62' to the sand and it has a 150' barge and 12 APC's. It is lined off so if you stay on the line you can't get lost. Coastal Scuba does thier check out dives here. MB is only 3.5 - 4 hours drive from Charlotte.
Dive Safe, Butch
