Someone close by is selling 2 of these. Question is, are they worth looking at, or should I just go for Faber HP 100’s?
What are the characteristic differences? I can’t find much on the Genesis, except for being DIN.
Thanks,
Erik

Many were made by PST (I believe some also by Ashai - "spun" and heavy) and are 3500psi with a narrower 7/8"-14 neck and 300 bar DIN only.

I love them but I believe that the the permit exemption allowing them to be hydroed is currently expired - (2022-09-30 but may pop up next week as renewed)

Specifications are on the Huron Scuba spec page (SCUBA Cylinder Specifications – Huron Scuba, Snorkel & Adventure Travel Inc. PADI 5 star IDC in Ann Arbor, MI).

Are you intending to use as singles? Doubles? Wet suit? Dry suit? Shore Diving? Boat Diving? Etc.

Thanks for the info @-JD- . I wasn’t aware of the permit exemption situation. Is that true for the 3442 psi genesis as well? I haven’t contacted the seller, so I’m not sure of the specs yet.
Hope I’m not being a pest, but I’m honestly lost when it comes to this type of thing.
Thanks

Wet suit, shore dives, singles.
I’m currently using LP 85’s and have the Faber HP 100 that is listed on the Huron sheet. I switched to a BP/W this past year and with a 5mm I’m overweight. With a 7mm it’s close, until I add the pony, then overweight. So, the Genesis seems much closer to what I’m used to, with the possible benefit of being butt heavy since I’m butt floaty at 500 psi in the 85’s.

From my experience, a 3,500 psig Genesis (PST) HP100 works perfectly as a single for shore dives using a full, good quality, cold water wet suit + hood + gloves, in fresh water.

It's a bit more negatively buoyant than a Faber HP100, though, and is too negatively buoyant for fresh water diving in a thin wet suit, IMHO. I suspect it might be too negatively buoyant, too, if you use a SS backplate, depending.

If you are very tall, this 24" cylinder might prove a bit short, though. I am 6'2", and it was perfect for me.

I have Genesis 100s, which were bought new, and will be thirty years old this coming year -- having just been successfully "hydro-ed" back in March. They are excellent tanks and I am fond of the tilted valves, which accommodate some of my regulators whose DIN attachments are on the base -- and would otherwise hit me in the head . . .

My Genesis/PST 100cuft 3500psi tanks have straight valves, R and a L. They were doubled for many years, now are set up as sidemount.

I have 4 Genesis / Sherwood tanks. Bought new and now about 30 years old. Two HP 102's and Two 120's. Like BigBella... I really love the angled valves and will always keep these tanks and valves. I also really like that they are 7.25 diameter tanks so they will fit in all standard tank racks.
