Someone close by is selling 2 of these. Question is, are they worth looking at, or should I just go for Faber HP 100’s?
What are the characteristic differences? I can’t find much on the Genesis, except for being DIN.
Thanks,
Erik

Thanks for the info @-JD- . I wasn’t aware of the permit exemption situation. Is that true for the 3442 psi genesis as well? I haven’t contacted the seller, so I’m not sure of the specs yet.
Hope I’m not being a pest, but I’m honestly lost when it comes to this type of thing.
Thanks
Yes, the 3442 E7-1?0s are also SP9791 so would be currently in limbo.

See this pic from Here showing the 3442 & SP9791 neck stampings:

Last time the renewal was posted 2-3 weeks after the prior expiration. In the past when the expiration happens there is apprehension, but they have been renewed. Then again, as the weasel-words in the financial commercials go: "Past results are not a guarantee of future performance."

If there is decent remaining hydro remaining, it may be worth the chance depending on price. It could also be a point of price negotiation.

Hydro was 7/18, so only 9 months left. Looks like born date was ‘08 but I haven’t been able to confirm that yet. Asking price is $400 for a pair, which is good under normal conditions. I’ll contact the seller and see what we can work out. Thing is, at $200 I can get a new Faber 100 for $175 more.
Thanks for all the info, it was very helpful.

Here (mid-MO) I pay $50 + Tx for a fresh hydro + VIP. So, I think his/her asking price is okay. I would want to know, though, that the cylinders will pass hydro and VIP, and that the valves are in good repair.

Another consideration: If you already have one Faber HP100, then getting another one (Faber HP100) provides more options.

Regarding the PST, if I’m understanding correctly, the big concern is that they can not be hydroed (is that even a word) now, and may not ever be able to if PST decides not to get a renewal on the exemption.
Regarding the Faber, it’s the M series, which I’m trying to sell. The M series is much heavier than any of the other 100’s, -14.76 full, so I’m overweighted even in salt water.
I’m still considering the FX-100 for $360 through Scuba.com. Might be the best way.

Good discussion on the ins and outs of PST Special Permit tanks, exemption renewals, etc.: DOT exemption for PST E7 Tanks? Expires Soon? Renewed?

FWIW, my Genesis HP80's I purchased new ca. 1988, and my Genesis HP120's (which replaced my HP100's) I purchased new ca. 1997. I think the special permit has expired a couple of times between then and now, but has always been renewed.

But, like you seem to be, I, too, would be a bit uncomfortable purchasing the cylinders when it is not absolutely clear that the SP will be renewed, and that the cylinders cannot get a fresh hydro and VIP.

I have one Genesis HP100 tank I bought on Craigslist with the 7/8" neck for $25 that I use for single tank dives. It passed Hydro and VIP last year. So far no issues.

At $25 there would be no hesitation on my part. That’s fantastic!

If the Genesis seller had another 100 I would have taken it but he had another Genesis 80 and I didn't want it.

I also bought an AL80 in excellent condition that needed hydro and VIP on Craigslist for $20.

If I could just find 1-2 sets of Faber LP85 doubles for a decent price ...
