Number one that reporter sucks. It was James Toland and we didn't use scooters.

Well, at least he was talking about air and not oxygen!

How's everyone feeling?

:giggle: Put that in a comment for ya!

Were they really using air?

And its Cave ADVENTURERS not Cave Adventures.

I missed that! Your turn to comment. ;)

Nitrox and trimix was used.

What do you normally deco on?

happens all the time.

a lot of divers who "volunteer" as public safety divers don't have any form public diver safey training. They just like to be part of the dive team and "get the t-shirt" and "sticker for their truck".

our local "dive team" is part of a volunter "rescue squad". They do a good job of towing in boats that run out of gas, but they have no business going into some of the dive situations they attempt. Luckily they aren't required as divers much.

their Dive Team leader told a local instructor a year or two ago that "I'd like to get with you about getting my Advanced Open Water". He doesn't have any training beyond Open Water and pretty much neither does most of the rest of the team.

but yet they like building out a cool dive trailer and bought a cool $180k dive/resuce boat. I mean it's important to look good with buying stuff with public funds and donations. but none of them will take the time to go through advanced recreational training, much less formal Public Safety Diver training.

go figure. I guess it was all about the t-shirt.

It's the same here. The local fire department has several divers, many who have nothing more than OW. You would expect the to at least have completed a Rescue Diver class!

Jax:
That's a shame. Our S&R dive team does training every other week in the summer, and once a month in the winter. They also train with TUS & PHX. I think they have to have AOW . . . not sure, but our LDS is a member and their instructor, so their skills and training are up to date.

The Pima County S&R Dive team is a joke. While most of them are scuba instructors, and most of them are on the regular S&R team, they don't know a whole lot about underwater operations. Their training has a lot to be desired. They get together once a month, get in the water about half the time they meet, and a couple of those times are to do the swim, tread, and ditch & don test required every other year (and not everyone is on the same renewal year). After meeting at 8:30, they are on the way to lunch at 11:30. I was a member for over a year before I got tired of the BS. From what I understand, Phoenix does have a good team, but they are all paid LEO. Pima County is made up of all volunteers.

Kevin it is not clear from the article, did the camera get farther back in the cave then divers had been on previous attempts? I saw the pictures from the paper....glad to see you and Ed were there helping.
