I imagine any ROV thats supposed to pull several thousand feet of tether, and have enough propulsion to fight a current, is definately going to be pretty big. They'll never see any bottle sized restriction.

I'd imagine it would kick up a fair amount of silt as well.

who's idea is this? it's so dumb. it can't be a cave diver behind this?
[speculation] ROV Mfg. marketing guy trying to get a nice PSD contract. [/speculation]

I would speculate it was the families idea. My understanding is that they are fairly well off and influential, so they may be putting a bit of pressure on the sheriff to explore other options.

I'm a bit curious how many divers it will take to "assist" this ROV though. Close to 2k' of cable in a cave is gonna need people to feed it and keep it from getting hung up on stuff.

It would take a lot of logistical planning to set something up like this. Guess what? That ain't happenin'!

Awww, c'mon. We read it in the paper, so it must be true... ;)

They will need over 2k' of cable to get back to the end. 1600' is a rough estimate based on either knots or tape, which brings human error into the equation. It's also 1600' to OW. Then there's another 60' to the surface and whatever distance to where the controls are set up. Oh, and let's not forget the added distance for not being able to bend like cave line.

I think you might have misunderstood me, John. It's the logistical planning that ain't happenin'!

Ah. So they're gonna proceed with this circus anyway? Any idea how soon it will happen?
