Here we go...in politics you discredit someone by calling them racists, sexist, marxist, bigot, etc. In tech diving (acually only online on SB) it's done by implying that they are not experienced enough to have an opinion or by implying that their instructor was no good. What kind of dive resume does it take to hear a word, note how it was used, and realize that it is (still) hurting our community?

He didn't imply that you should not have an opinion, but one as closed off and overly sure as yours, is perhaps arrogant given your stated experience:
from you profile, unless it has changed since you posted it, and it may well have, but how would we know:
About techintime
Biography Im a new technical diver with wreck penetration and AN/DP ratings, Trimix next, cavern, maybe even cave when I get the time for the training. Location Louisiana Occupation Air Force pilot Gender Male Certification Agencies SSI, NAUI, TDI Dive History Technical diving, spear fishing, the lakes of Arkansaw, Truk, Persian Gulf, Jersey Coast, Pensacola Certification History Master Diver, Wreck survey and penetration, AN/DP Certification Level SSI Master Diver, TDI AN/DP
Also, you are making some blanket statements that are just hard to swallow, and they make us want to know your reasoning behind them.

Assuming that most DIR divers are warm and welcoming folks that do not shove their methodolgy in your face, it seems obvious that the reputation DIR has gained stems from those 1% few :ummhat: that like to look down their nose at others.

Unfortunately, that one percent is not just in DIR -
Guns - some people like to brandish theirs to show off, making gun owners look nutso
Motorcycles - some like to act like the bad a$$, making the world scared of the rest
Snowboarders - some like to spray snow and run close to others, giving them a bad name
Bass fishermen - some are so focused on their favorite spot, they 'run over' lesser boats

.

It's up to us as individuals to look around and spot the 'good guys', and be aware that our outlook might be tarnished by the 1% that are the vocal attention-getters.

As a woman, I gotta say:

Yeah, many women swoon for anything that is dangerous or appears to be. Those are the same women who will go in a cave, untrained, SM or not, with a guy like B.Mc. If we can come up with a class to cure THAT.....

If more women would become their own badass technical divers rather than chasing one, they would recognize the jacka$$es when they see them.

Women chase a 7' hose? :D

:spit:

Just an FYI, if this guy were to turn up healthy and a liar in 30 years, most people would still trust him more than CDNN.....the enquirer of the scuba world. If it appears on their pages, they likely made it up.

Actually they picked it up from the LA Times and OC Register, this was a big deal locally and was not made up. My bad for picking the first link that google came up with, I posted on this when it broke last year. The big difference was the cops were on this case as a hoax from the start.

Not to derail the thread, but it's worth mentioning that this illustrates one of the problems with CDNN: they very often (perhaps even "usually") quote other news reports verbatim or with very little modification, yet without a shred of attribution. That's not journalism, it's plagiarism, and I have less than no respect for CDNN as a "news" source.

Back to topic...

i Have no doubt you are. ;) I wish there were more of us.

Personally my hoses on my rEvo are a little long for my liking right now, and I am still working with the 7 ft hose bunggied for bailout in the caves (think a miflex my route better), but other than that i am pretty confident in my hoses :cool2:
