Gekko vs Vyper

I have the Vyper and my wife has the Gekko. If you don't care about not being able to download the profile then go for the gekko. I like the gekko's phospholuminecent display, you don't have to worry about hitting the light button everytime you look at it at night or in low vis.

The wife and both have the Gekko and like it a lot. I'm a Divemaster and have been diving for over 30 years. I've owned 4 - 5 computers over that time from the advanced to the most simple. What I find is that it has a lot to do with your diving style and how much you wanna futz with the thing. If you want a water activated, user battery replaceable, simple to use and accurate puter then the Gekko is hard to beat.

You can definitely get better, more expensive and more complex puters if you want to get into simulation and downloading of profiles. But if you dive 3 - 4 times a year and just want something on your wrist (or in your console) that keeps you informed and safe the Gekko is the ticket.

What do you guys think about the diver that dives a couple times a month? Mostly shore dives down to 40 or so feet, nothing technical at all. I really don't think I'd ever download my data onto my computer at the moment but I don't know if I will a couple years down the road. If I knew that I wouldn't then I would definately go with the Gekko. I doubt I'd use the guage mode and simulator mode either, it seems like most of you don't anyways. I'm just trying to justify the extra money for a few extra features.I think I'm kind of leaning towards the Gekko.

I got the Gekko mainly for those reasons. Although I do deeper wreck dives. I don't download to a computer. I transfer the dive data to my logbook. The Dive plan feature I use before my dives to determine what the NDL and Max. depth for my nitrox or air mix. Gage mode acts like an electronic depth gage. Bottom line is the Gekko does everything I need right now. I may go with a wireless air integrated computer in the far future.
