Descent Mk2S: 14.15mm thick
Descent Mk2: 17.8mm thick
Descent Mk2i: 17.8mm thick

Fenix 6S: 14.2mm thick
Fenix 6: 15.1mm thick
Fenix 6X: 14.9mm thick

Mk2S is available in Carbon Gray DLC, with a black band.
Thanks Stuart. My Fenix 5x is 17mm so the MK2s would probably be a good size as a daily watch. I need to find one in a shop and see the buttons though.

The dive screens are moderately customizable but you cant put pictures as a background:wink:.

One of my single biggest gripes with the mk2 is the fact I can not have a compass with AI on any screen. But on one customizable screen there are 7 areas that can have different data along with two side bars, however it is still limited to what and where. The other main screens can be customized in select areas and the color can be changed I believe as well.

That would be nice. Is there at least a hot button for the compass? In other words, can I be on a main dive screen, click one button, go immediately to a compass, and then click back to the main screen?

That would be frustrating. I frequently take advantage to have compass and AI both on the screen at the same time on my Teric and my NERD2. Basically, I pretty much never need to press a button during a dive (unless I'm doing a gas switch), as everything I want is shown at once. :D

You can set the order so it is a single press to get to it. But Id rather have it on a single screen.

What's frustrating is that there is a screen that has 7 box areas and two graphical side areas of customization, yet you cant add AI to that screen!

Maybe on an eventual update...but for now I have to up my rmv out of stress while forced to push a button..

Was considering an MK2i (I'd be wanting AI) but the crazy high price put me off, and the possibility of a new model being released in the near future. How is everyone's MK2i holding up these days?

I love mine. I just got back from a 30 dive trip to Cozumel where I dived with my Mk2i for the first time. I intended it to be a backup to my good ole' Oceanic VT3, but by the middle of the trip I had decided to make the Mk2i my primary. I liked it that much. The only real problem I had was hearing the sonar chirping when the transmitter was mounted on the regulator behind my head, but a short HP hose and repositioning the transmitter to the side of my BCD fixed that issue completely.

The battery life is incredible. I disabled the heartbeat and pulse/ox sensors since I had the watch on a NATO strap while diving. With those disabled I only had to charge the watch once over the course of 30 dives / 13 days. When not diving, and those sensors are enabled, I charge it once a week.

I bought it because I was also in the market for a fitness watch for swimming, biking, skiing, etc, and this ticked all the boxes. I used it for a couple months before my dive trip for swimming laps in the pool, and love it for that. It's so nice to just zen out while swimming and not have to keep track of my laps. It's also cool to see progress on the various fitness stats it tracks. But if you aren't going to use the watch when you're not diving it's probably not the best choice, because I do think the Mk2i is really overpriced for just a dive computer.

Well It isn't cheap and the price IMHO is not worth it for just a dive computer. My bet is that there will not be a completely new model for a year or so.

It does have some simple features that many computers don't like 90L, 90R and reciprocal which makes box nav easier for many. It also has lots of user definable alerts like tank reserve pressure, depths, ect. Live calculations such rmv and sac.

It is very good as a smart watch and the battery life is insane. It as many features that no other "just" dive watch has or if they do, I have not had luck with the features working as expected. Things like notifications, music, gps, apps, heart rate, ox, an insane amount customizable watch faces, pool mode (very useful so it doesn't fill up my log) and freedive and such. All buttons are fully customizable for quick access to something and after you use all of the buttons for quick access you can use button combos to add more.

It does have a payment system which at first I thought would be worthless. However I have used it on many trips when I do not have my wallet since my plans for diving always seems to change as a day goes on. So the wallet has been used many times at a dive boat and filling tanks down by the shore and I now use a quick access button for it.

I also thought the music would be worthless but for pool sessions and boarding in the mountains it is nice to not carry something else.

The GPS is also quite accurate if you use it as intended for diving and it tracks my snow boarding or atv laps quite well.

As far as holding up I have probably been harder on my mk1 and mk2 than most users. I have worn mine as a daily watch since it was released. I have had over 30 days snowboarding, tons of hours ATV riding, months of rock climbing, a summer of pool days and now over 100 dives with it. Sure now It has only a few scratches on the super tuff bezel (surprising it isnt shredding from climbing) and a small nick on the sapphire glass that I have to try hard to notice.

The things I do not like about Garmin for diving is not having a customizable screen that I can put full control compass on with AI. There are many screens that have a place you could swap it out for...but you can't. It would also be nice to have a surf gf..

It also has a beep.....sonar. While this does not bother many I can hear it even on low. Though on low it doesn't disturb me on my dive anymore like the default setting did.

The thing I really dislike about the overall setup is that the dive log is online only. If you do not have web access you aren't logging using the app until you do. So if you log dives you will most likely have to take notes or log later if you go far offshore or dive in a remote place in the mountains.

It does have two types of rx/tx for the mk2i/t1 that seem to bother a few and a handful of people have had issues with it...teething of a new product.

When they do release a new model I would not expect future support unless it is something critical. But in the case of the mk1 it still works well It t just isn't getting any new feature sets.. They are a large company that produces a ton of smart watches and always will want you to buy the latest and greatest feature rich item.

I am with you on this, as I refuse to give Garmin any of my data. Fortunately the open source dive log software Subsurface supports the Mk2i, so that solves that problem.

My issue with it is that it isn't reliable when your phone doesn't have a good connection. You should be able to use it offline if you want.

I use subsurface too and while it is great for what it is, I still much prefer the clean look, additional options and the functionality of the Garmin app.

Besides If you use it as a full featured smart watch they have all the data that they want, similar to all the other smart watches and phones in everyone's pocket.
