I have a fairly new G-250 on a New MK-25. Every time that I push the button the 250 free flows. The only way to stop it seems to be to turn off the
air. Any ideas?

Any ideas?

You mean besides not pushing the purge button???

What temp water are you in? Maybe the reg is freeflowing because you froze it by pushing the purge button. Solution, don't push it.

Or, it could be that the G250 wasn't adjusted with your Mk25. So perhaps servicing is required.

Or it could be that the intermmediate pressure is set a bit too high on the Mk25. In which case servicing is required.

Perhaps there is some debris in teh G250, in which case, servicing is required.

Those would be my suggestions. Perhaps others with more experience will offer better advice.

The little flow restrictor two position switch usually does it. Partially blocking the mouthpiece should also work. Most highly tuned second stages will freeflow if you depress trhe purge valve while holding it in your hand. The slight restriction that occurs when it's in your mouth usually moderates this tendency. This is why it's important that octopus second stages be comparatively de-tuned, a little harder breathing than the second stage you normally use.

As Perrone Ford suggested, check the IP with a gauge.

The G250, as well as the S600, have an VIVA (venturi assist). It is designed to create a slight vacume on the diaphram during air-flow (while inhailing). You can see the VIVA by looking into the mouth piece (it is the plastic bar going across), it is in the "Dive" position when it is flat across and "Predive" when tilted. The regulator is "properly tuned" when you have the VIVA in the "Dive" position and push the purge and a free flow occurs. To stop the free flow (which will not happen when the reg is in your mouth because of back pressure) just block the mouth piece with your thumb and it should stop (back pressure).

Unless it is freeflowing when you turn it on or soon after without the purge being pressed, it is probably not a tuning issue.

If you mean it freeflows violently when you depress the purge and will not stop on its own, the solution is most likely related to the flow vane being on the "max" or "+" position which results in a very high venturi effect that maintains low pressure in the case which depresses the dipahragm and sustains the flow. If you put it to the "min" or "-" position, it should not do that.

Even if you don't adjust the switch, placing your thumb over the opening in the mouthpiece will create back pressure inside the case which will push the diaphragm back out and stop the flow.

If that does not work for you, then take it in for service.
