The Blue Abyss is 240 feet before the TKM restriction, I believe. But that wouldn't be the best training ground for advanced trimix, as it is a 40 - 60 minute swim just to get to the Blue Abyss, depending on which line you take. Beyond the swim, that would be a lot of logistics to stage the proper gasses there. It'd be a cool dive, but not one that you'd likely do during a class.

Really? Time for another look in there. I'll be back in January and check it out. Last time we got to the end of the line at 180ft but that was several years ago and we probably didn't have the best diluent for that dive anyway.

I've only been down to 100ft in Blue Abyss. I was basing the 240 foot comment based upon the cave map. I do know that is current exploration in the Blue Abyss and The Pit that has pushed the line in both caves recently. It's my understanding that Blue Abyss is now 100m deep past a no mount restriction called the TKM.

The explorer, Krzysiek Starnawski, has written about it in ADM magazine and on his page.

I was in Tulum last week and it was my understanding that Starnawski was in town. I'm not sure if he worked on his exploration or not, but I wouldn't be surprised. He wasn't at Pet Cemetery the day that I was there, though.

Hmmm, caves and trimix, sounds good. Maybe next year a trip to deep caves. But then I need to find a buddy/instructor/divingschool there ;)
