Yesterday I was too lazy to scuba dive so I tried some freediving ..... man .... after only 10 minutes I was exhausted :(

It was so hard to reach the bottom ... and once I got there I could not stay there at all :(

Maybe because I did not have the right wetsuit and weights

This is me TRYING to freedive (picture taken with iPhone 4S + our Dive Cam App)

I need some training here ... any freediver willing to help here in SoCal?

Yes, Freediving is a Real Sport!

bro,
recommend and expand a lung to build up endurance. and start with some weight. you shouldn't be struggling to get back to the surface, but it'll help you get down. also as depth increases, your lung volume decreases, this is going to have trouble getting comfy with past 30 feet. keep at it bro. alot of tech divers are dumping there equipment for the pure sport of freediving

I've taken a freediving class locally with Mark Lozano before and have to say it was a very tough class but very rewarding and fun! In the end, I was able to get down to 50 ft and thought I would pass out lol. With a little more practice, I think I could've got down to the class limit of 70 ft but I was beat at that point. After the class, it's probably the most tired I've been in a long long time.

Speaking of freediving, I really need to go out again and start practicing, awesome workout and very fun.

Technique wise, weighting is really important as was mentioned----you want to be slightly positive in the first 15-20 ft and after that neutral or slightly negative. There are also breathing techniques to practice to help with your breath hold. In the class, went from about 2 min max before to 3 minutes.

I'm an advanced open water scuba diver, but I have since switched over to freediving which I find to be more rewarding because of the work you have to put in, in order to become better. I'm now 90% freediving vs 10% scuba diving.

~30 feet (so they said). The deepest I've been freediving. I needed a weighbelt. I am very bouyant on a full breath regardless of my body weight lol.

Congrats on trying freediving!
We do a lot of freediving up here in Norcal for abalone.
I've always said, If you learn to freedive first you'll make a better scuba diver later.
When one of my friends tells me they want to learn to scuba dive I always beg them to freedive for a year or two with me before they get scuba certified.
It makes it so much easier.
You can see why now.

+1
Take a freediving class. You will be amazed at how much you learn how much you will improve. Plus you will then be able to do it safely
Freediving instructors international (FII)
Has an instructor locator on their website. There are some in CA such as mark Lozano. And I am in UT if you are interested.

Take the class. You need it.

Oh yeah.
That's only a few hours away from my house and I can do it in a day trip.
A bunch of us are going up there for 5 days next week for our annual NCD campout at Albion.
We'll be freediving our butts off.

*Add... Younglegs, I see you're from Petaluma so I guess you know it can be done in a day trip...Duh on me.
Hey, if you're going up there this weekend come on by to the Albion campground and say hi, we'll be in D section. Come on by and grab a beer at the tiki bar.
