I used to freedive a lot to stay in shape. I still go, but not as often as I used to. I took the PFI intermediate class and learned it's all about technique. With the proper weight and technique you won't get as tired because your not working as hard to get down. Also keep in mind that you should be giving yourself a few minutes between dives so you can catch your breath and relax. A group of us would meet up and dive Redondo beach by verterans park. Pretty easy to get to and they have a nice ledge that drops off pretty deep. I would strongly suggest taking a class if only to understand the risk and safety aspects alone and if you do plan on diving try and dive with a buddy before you go beyond your comfort level.
