I had this again, after this weekend's dives, and I don't have it every time I go diving, just once in a while. What happens is that after I get home, about 3-4 hrs after finishing my last dive, I'll just randomly have a bunch of water drain out of my nose when i tilt my head forward a bit.

For example, I get home from my 2 hr drive home, get to my door, look down put my keys in the lock and flush, comes all this water!

There's no pain, I didn't have problems equalizing during my dive or after. It's just very odd. I'm thinking that they're draining from my sinuses. Can anyone confirm this or explain what's going on?

Thanks!

It is certainly coming from your sinuses.

Either see an ENT guy is a diver or who confers with DAN.... or stop looking down to put the key in the door lock. It will freeze.

Barring that, are you wearing a Sailor Hat ?

I think it might be cerebral spinal fluid leaking from an infection with aquatic brainworm. They are known to enter through the ear canal, and bore through the little tubie till they reach your brain.

Or it could be water you snorted up your sinuses, and just ready to dump when you stand just the right way. I find nose boogers discusting, and always hang out after a good dive.

the lock will freeze? :11: Erhm, not at the moment, nor when it drained. But I could wear one for you if you ask nicely? :rofl3:

Do a test. Squirt nasal saline spray up your nostril from various positions. Roll around to get it into all the sinuses. Stand up, and tilt forward to recreate the motion. If water comes out... You got a little swimming pool in your sinus. I'll bet it is water you snorted up your nose into your maxillary sinuses. They are large, and it is easy to get stuff out of them.

The worst time it happened to me was when I was in a store and bent over to pick up a magazine, it was like someone poured a cup of water on the newspapers below me. I was really impressed by the amount of water my sinuses could hold.

It is pretty impressive how much water is up there, but on the other hand, having the openings into the sinuses be that patent augurs well for not having sinus squeeze!

I have to admit they decide to drain at the most awkward moments, though . . .

As an aside, ocean salt water seems to me to be the best sinus-draining medication around. After every dive I have to go over the side with a snort to empty all the stuff out.

Its happened to me too though it doesn't sound like I've had as much fluid as you're talking about.
I just make sure to carry a napkin or a tissue with me after a dive.
I've had the same thing happen from surfing when I got tumbled around a bit.
