Thanks for the info. I
Cooler water seems to bring the sharks, especially the hammerheads. At least that's what I learnt in Gulf of Mexico, Cocos, Socorro, and Galapagos.
I was on the RSA in the middle of March this spring. Definitely cool/cold but hardly a shark to be seen. Looking at the captain's logs they started to return from mid-April on.

Thanks for the info, folks. I'm going to check the alternative out!

Well, I checked Sevens Cabs and Coach Hire | Taxi | Wheelchair and Mini-Buses | Private Coach Hire | Dundalk, Co. Louth they seem to serve only in Ireland. Am I missing something?

Taxi Trips and Prices

(That website is run by the same guy that runs the taxi company so far as I can tell - it's how I booked. He also had his hands in the SIM card booths in the airports and could get you a pretty good deal on an Egypt local SIM delivered to you by your driver all in one shot. They've been doing it for a while and had a pretty smooth operation going, I found them through multiple references on Trip Advisor)

(I will caution about the semi-mandatory 'rest' break taken by the driver at the only 'convenience store' along the route between Hurghada and MA. It's up to you if you want to buy anything or how hard you want to negotiate but be prepared for the first offer to be... high... After a 3AM arrival I needed some sugar and just went with it.)

Got it! Thanks! It's Steven's Taxis, not Sevens Taxis. My bad! Old eyes LOL.

Well, I checked Steven’s Taxis, http://www.marsaalam.com/site/mobile?url=http://www.marsaalam.com/Taxi_Trips_and_Prices.html#2617 “Price from Hurghada Airport, 281km north of Marsa Alam town, to any hotel around the Port Ghalib area - 76 euro only..”, or $84, not 40 euro, but still 30% less than $119. I think the high cost is because their office is in Marsa Alam, not in Hurghada. So they need to drive 280km to Hurghada to pick me up. Basically I’ll pay a roundtrip Taxi cost for going from Hurghada Airport to Port Ghalib.

The 15 minute Uber form my condo to the airport is $33CAD.

Just sayin...

Also... the market dynamics that result in intense price competition between a large number of suppliers are somewhat absent in this particular location:

Thanks for the info. I looked at RSA2 itinerary and I have been on some of the sites before (Ras Mohammed, Thistlegorm, Strait of Tiran) so northern route is out of the question.

I was there last August. The sites were pretty much fished out. That's why I'm interested in the southern route and in better time of the year.

Cooler water seems to bring the sharks, especially the hammerheads. At least that's what I learnt from diving in Gulf of Mexico, Cocos, Socorro, and Galapagos.

Summer is the best time for hammerheads (and in general) in the Egyptian Red Sea—not winter. Current much more important to make them move up in the water column. But can be seen year round, but much less frequent in winter/spring in Egypt. Sudanese Red Sea different story.

In order to do the Aggressor and Brothers itinerary, you will have to travel to Marsa Alam. I promise you, it is not that bad.

What was bad (and keeps me from re-booking) was the 11 hr hop from Chicago to Intanbul and the subsequent 9 hr layover.

What really bummed me out was there are no direct flights from egypy to tel aviv… Yet they are supposedly at peace? Uh huh, sure they are.
