i have found that there are no direct flights from california to cozumel.which makes for a long day traveling just to get there and back.i see direct flights from dallas where we usually make our connecting flight and sit for many hours waiting for our next flight. there are flights from denver every day minneapolis atlanta ,miami and many other places but not anywere in california. daily flights from los angeles to cancun.but not to coz
i recently sent an e mail to american airlines to ask why not.and recieved email back thanking me for my suggestion and said they would consider it if there were enough requests

i think that if a lot more people sent email or called to make the same suggestion that they might start making some flights. so if you live in calif and like to make trips to cozumel send them an email at american airline .com customer relations
also business owners in cozumel send them an email let them know that you hear from your customers that they would come there more often if there were direct flights.

I've been checking the same thing. Travelocity was giving me 15-18 hours to get from San Diego to COZ, sometimes with flight via Newark(***!), or overnighting in Houston or somesuch!

I can get to *Ireland* faster (and sometimes cheaper) than I can get to Coz; maybe this is a sign from the airline gods that I should visit the Guinness brewery instead of going diving? (Or else the beer gods paid the airline gods :-) )

Cozumel would be nice but Cancun isn't too bad really. Grab the bus right after you land, an hour to Playa, 45 minutes on the ferry and you're there. Sometimes its faster than the connections in Houston or Dallas and possibly cheaper too.

There must not be enough demand from relatively warm places like LA to Cozumel to justify nonstop scheduled flights.

But, I am looking into the same. The best so far seems to be Frontier Airlines. From LA to Denver, a 2-hour flight, leaving quite early though at 6:25 AM. A 1-hour layover and then the 3-and-a-half hour flight to Cozumel. They fly A319s. Not bad; about $550 per person. On the return portion, you have to wait a bit more in Denver, I think for 2 hours.

I hope this helps.

We come from the SF area, and do whatever we can to avoid Denver as a connection point in the winter, much safer to connect in Houston if possible. Too many weather related problems in Denver in the winter. Not to mention the fabulous luggage transfer system that Denver is noted for:)

I fly Frontier out of Denver all of the time. And on flights to Mexico the Direct TV is free as it dies with out 45 minutes remaining. You really want to leave that amount of time for the layovers anyway since you need to clear customs on the way back anyway.

The other thing I like about that flight is that it leaves Coz late enough that you can do a 2 tank dive the day before and still make it under the 24 hour rule.

I have flown LAX->HOU->COZ and LAX->CUN with a shuttle bus ride. LAX->CUN is cheaper, however, I like leaving LAX at around 1am and being in Coz by noon-ish and in the water by 2pm on the same day.

We've also done the Frontier flight thru Denver several times, although our starting point is Boise. I understand wanting to avoid Denver in the winter because I've been stuck several times there because of weather. That being said, however, we just did that route in November, returned the day before Thanksgiving, and we were on time both directions. Then flew from Denver to Boise the Sunday after Thanksgiving and we were also on-time. We usually fly United most places, but that Frontier flight was one of the most pleasant experiences I've had flying in a long time. And they even give you a snack! Go figure.
