Just FYI, it is the same eye witness report first reported by @Mod63 and translated by @outofofficebrb earlier in this thread (Tuesday afternoon). So not a new report. But thanks for linking.

Thanks for the info... I didn't notice this posting until now. Of course the linked article is not new, it is the now translated version of the original german version - exactly the translation of an updated version.

The translation - as far as I can see - was done by the author of the german version (one of the survivors of the disaster)

The addendum is interesting, that the remains of the boat are easily reachable from a day boat site. Doe anyone know the site, I don't think I have seen it.

More lies from Aggressor?

The person who died - did they recover her body? I don’t think this was mentioned or did I miss it somewhere.

Yeesh. Between satellite phones, PLBs, two way radios, CO and CO2 monitors, Smoke Detectors, regular cell phones, multiple dive computers, regular computers and camera gear, it seems as if the "more concerned" SB diver will be carrying a veritable cornucopia of the latest in electronics on board. I think that any future LOB diver should include the CES show in Vegas each year in January as a must-see to stock up on the latest electronics.

...and all that charging

" So is there such a thing as "Aggressor service," or not

From the posts there is, but service is not safety.

Is it just meaningless marketing fluff that only saps should fall for?

Marketing is meaningless fluff for the rubes.

I think ppl choose Aggressor because they think they’re American (company and boats) and it’s a “trusted” brand. Even if it costs more.

Depending on how this plays out, they may fall off the trusted brands list. I don't think advertising trips on a boat that no longer exists won't help, but if they quickly get another boat, rename it, and keep this incident out of the news, it's business as usual.

One item that I include in my “grab and dash” bag is a small, relatively powerful submersible flashlight. I currently have a UK Aqualite LED video light for this purpose.

I’m thinking of using the Flashlight app in my iPhone, which seems pretty bright.

...and all that charging

It's a decision everyone makes for themselves. **** happened to me the very same year that I reduced my insurance coverage because I decided that "**** doesn't happen to me". So I come from a different mindset. Just yesterday, I got some eye-rolling when I told my co-workers everything I bought insurance for. I get it. **** hasn't happened to them.

This extra stuff is just another form of insurance. I don't like to take my chances anymore.

The PLBs are battery operated. So are the smoke/CO detectors. I never once had to charge my SAT phone on a 10 day LOB because minutes are expensive and you won't be chatting on them for hours. I charged it fully before boarding and never had to recharge. So "and all that charging" is just an excuse.

Everything else: cameras, lights, cell phones, laptops - yes, those you need to charge.

I tend to agree with you on this. If you're a regular here on SB, you're aware that this has always been the way Aggressor dealt with incidents. They're all hush, hush and then people forget over time. And that offer of a voucher for a return trip. That ain't news either. Or that they're some sort of a franchise or license arrangement with most of their boats. We all knew that too. And yet, many of us, including myself, would continue to choose them for a future LOB trip.
