Would love to take you up on your offer. My good friend has a 27' Power cat with twin 160 Honda's, Gps and fish finder. He's currently remodeling a house to sell. When he gets it weather proof(about a month) he wan'ts to take the boat out. He was originally going to take us to the Avalon. Maybe we could do both. I'll let you know when the time comes.

Was talking to a dive buddy at work about Laurel's wrecks and he mentioned Lake Mead . I think ? it was a B-24 Liberator. In DEEP water though.

Isnt there a big military plane in some very deep water in Lake Mead? Accident during WW2 I think?

I believe this was the subject of a Depp Sea Detectives episode....They were running a test on a device that was the precurser to what is in the nose of many heatseeking missles....

If I recall correctly, it is in 180 ft. of fresh water and is well preserved.

It's a B-24 bomber, revamped with post WW2 stuff...Went down several years or more AFTER ww2 ended. It was originally in over 250 ft, but with the drought, it is probably in less than 180 ft now. I have several buddies who want to dive it, but the National Park Service (NPS) won't let anyone dive without getting their permission. Deep Sea Detectives did do a lot of dives on it, with the aid of NPS. I beleive because it is what it is, I doubt that the general public will ever be allowed to dive on it.

Isn't there also a B-29 down there too? But I am pretty sure this one (not sure if its in meade...but think so) is in a "park" so its off limits which is a shame.

Yes, I am a member of the divebums list serve, both in San Diego and OC. I have coordinates for both planes, and a couple of others, as well as acccess to a lot of coordinates for "true" shipwrecks, but the plane's coordinates are not mine to give out. However, if you have a boat, and you invite me onto it, and we happen to go to an area around the wrecksite, my logbook would probably happen to open and the coordinates would be divulged...

You'd have to burn all of your equipment after the dive. That place smells like a tuna factory.

Apparently the radioactivity is lower there than in any modern city. I will try find the article I read that in
