hi everyone,

i would like to hear our opinions on the following dive computer related topic.

i have a suunto d4 that i had to send in after 1.5 years because it was resetting itself, than the wristband broke ( now fixed with cable ties ), next 2 of the screws that hold the wristband came of while diving ( luckily i noticed) and than it showed me weired depths during my last couple dives in a quarry nearby. like 90cm when i was 4-5 meters down or still 3 meter when my head nearly stuck out of the water. all that within 2.5-3 years.
customer service of suunto however is excellent. one call and i got replacement screws send over from finnland for nada!!!

i am considering a change to uwatec as they are to my knowledge reliable and i don't care about the fashion effect or whatever. the thing only has to work.
wich brings me to the question.

should i go for the super simple (i like that) uwatec/ scubapro bottom timer and just use additional tables should i ever go with nitrox ? or look more at the aladin pro nitrox or aladin pro ultra?

as i have had bad experience with too much technologie i really consider the option of dive tables for serious planning and the most simple bottom timer.
also i would maybe someday like to go into tec to go a little deeper, how could this influence the choice?
what's your opinion?

looking forward to your response,
chris

Have a look at technology from your own country. Heinrichs Weinkamp have the Frog and the OSTC 2N and soon some more models. The Frog would probably be perfect for you. I have the 2N and it is brilliant.

Either go with Uwatec's bottom timer and custom made tables or specialised dive computers like the HW Ostc 3 or Shearwater Petrel. The latter has my preference, but all will allow you to grow with them as a diver... Regular/mainstream dive computers will not offer much for technical diving despite some brands'best intentions/marketing efforts...
