I in the hunt for a new 5 or 6 mil suit (live in Dallas, Texas) and want something to cover most of my lake and blue water activities.

The dive shop I support is suggesting a wetsuit under the brand name of Excel.

Has anyone heard of them and can offer some opinions?

Thanks in advance!

I've a buddy who uses the hooded one piece (can't recall the model name) for Florida cave diving and loves it. I have the Body Glove equivalent and really like the style.

So where you divin?

I dive mostly in Texas Lakes, with a few blue water trips per year.

I have a older 3-mil suit, but am thinking of a 5-mil to cover most of my dive activities and to increase warmth at deeper depths. Remember, the warmer you are, the less air you consume.

The attached hood and neck dam reduce flushing, it has taped seams with ankle, wrist and face seals like a drysuit.
In the winter you can add a vest or shorty underneath with some semi-dry gloves and booties. I've worn my body Glove like that in 50 degree water and been good for 30 min.

Most of my diving is dry now in Missouri caves and the Great Lakes, but if you want to some time, give me a shout and we'll meet at Lake Murkey or Elmer Thomas.

The shop that I work for sells Excel wetsuits. Don't own one my self but have sold many, mostly of the 3 mil variety. Never had a complaint and have found them to be an exceptional value. I've heard that many of the military wetsuits are Excel, but don't know first hand.

Overall I like them. In fact, the next 3 mil suit I buy will probably be an Excel.

I have the Excel 7.5 mil. front zip integrated hood, and am very well-pleased with it. I wear it diving California from Monterey to Catalina and find it gives me good warmth and ease of entry. I definetly recommend Excel.

Mike,

I think the Blonde model that they had for their advertising is hotter than the darker haired lady who has replaced her in the current ads. As far as the suit is concerned I have never used one, when I dove wet I wore a Scuba Pro S-Tek 7mill. This is a semi-dry suit and was very nice once you had the suit on. I purchased a diveskin to wear under it to make the donning and doffing process easier. You will also want to consider a nice thick hood and gloves as well to help keep you toasty warm. I dove the Smith Moore in Lake Superior 25 minutes at 43 degrees and did not feel cold at all. Your milage may very.

Mike... sorry.. I took back that number... that was/is the direct number to the manufacturer. But you weren't suppose to get it.. lol. I guess they could answer some questions.. but they prefer you go thru the distributer.
Of course I shall supply you with their web page and hopefully will list their distributers... mabye tomorrow on this thread.
BTW .. if you got the number.. call em.. and they can answer some questions.. as to mill, hooded.. zipped in front? :11:
