Hi all,

I'm making a trip to Cape Cod from the UK later this year (about the end of August). What can I expect from the diving out there - water temps, viz, animals etc etc.

What about wreck diving? Dive Centres etc? Any good websites you can direct me to?

I'm thinking about about leaving all my gear at home and just renting all I need whilst I'm out there - is that a good idea?

As I have a non-diving partner what do most of the dive centres arrange for buddy-less divers.

Come on folks - you know you wan to tell me everything!

Thanks,

Tim

ps if any of you folks are around at about that time and would like to dive with me then just let me know. I'm sure we could sort something out.

We have in house in Marston's Mills so I might be around. Haven't done much diving down there but I will PM you with the guy to talk to.

Scott

I will likely be there during that time as well. My in-laws have a place in Dennisport (mid-cape, near Hyannis)

A couple Ideas..

Sea Sport Dive shop in Hyannis (http://www.capecodseasports.com) last year had guided dives for buddyless divers every Thurs afternoon during the season. The sites vary based on conditions, tides. Usually the dive master will do beach shore dive off Sandwich Beach or Woods Hole.
I know they rent everything you need (tank, BC, Reg, Wetsuit..) for about 50-60 quid. You'll of course need your own mask, fins, booties.. Hood is optional. At that time of year, water is really warm (around 72ish)

I hate to tell you but shore diving isn't that great. Water is very shallow, sandy.. I would be more than happy to take you to a couple spots I know. (e.g. Corporation Beach)

There is one pond that a lot of people go diving in (Hathaway Pond)

You're best bet is to go with a charter however there aren't many running out of Cape anymore. Sea Sport's web site has one charter co. on their web site.

There is one guy I contacted last year. Billy DiSilva of Little Squirt Charters. He's got a "six pack" and goes out of Sandwich harbor.
It's not his full time thing but he does go out to some of wreck dives in area.

Another web site to refer to:

I would be more than happy to dive with you so leave me a message and I'll leave you my contact info.

Hi Guys, thanks for the quick replies. I'll try and confirm dates quickly so that if either / both of you are around we can do something together which would be great.

Scott will e-mail yer man as well - thanks for that.

One question more - should I think about bringing the drysuit that time of year or will a full length 5mm wetsuit suffice?

A 5mm jumpsuit will be fine for that time of year.

Also, you might want to check out the Dive Locker in Hyannis. They are a new shop. Mike Walls is the owner, and manager. He's a good guy, and has trips set up for that time of year. Check him out. Phone number is 508-775-1185. Website is www.capedivelocker.com .

Absolutely, 5MM full suit is sufficient. I get hot diving w/ my 7MM. Din't know about new dive shop. Thanks for pointing out! There website has a lot more content.
