Escape "options"

I agree it has to do with older Escapes. When I bought mine there was a choice of rip-cord or the pull out, and my D Rings are plastic.

You are correct. Prior to the Stiletto BC, the Escape BC had the option of a ripcord or pull out weight system, but that was a few years ago.

I've seen a couple of used Escape BCs for sale and I'm very interested - but confused about the sizing. My waist is 39" and my shoulder-to-waist is 18" (if measured from the top of my shoulder straight down to my waist, while standing straight). I'm hoping/expecting waist size will decrease, but only an inch or two. Could a M fit me? (I haven't worn "medium" ANYTHING in years....) Thanks for any guidance! tom

39" is at the top end of a MD vest. A LG would probably suit you better!
