I have heard that you should not drink energy drinks before diving.

Also heard, you should stay away from caffeine and soda drinks.

Is it true ?

All true.

I don't have the science behind it but there was a thread on the topic perhaps early this summer. This included sport drinks like Gatorade.

Caffeine is to be a avoided.

Energy drinks are OK 50/50 with water intake but should not be the sole source of hydration.

One 32 oz. Gatorade on the way to the reef, one 32 oz. Gatorade between dives and at least one Budweiser on the way to the motel. That's my regimine. Keeps everything flushed out and runnin' smooth. No problemos.

Dr Bookspan says Gatorade is OK. see: Dr. Jolie Bookspan - Diving Myths # 27

But the excessive amount of caffeine in some energy drinks could well be a problem.

Drink what you normally drink in the morning unless you can hold out until noon.

The more we keep our routines the same, the better we'll be, unless of course your morning routine calls for a Bloody Mary.

Most boats have water to keep you hydrated, so as long as you drink aboard, you should be fine.

Me? I'm a Diet Moutain Dew kinda guy. Mix that with a few protein bars, and I'm unstoppable.

Uurah.

ODM, come on, getting liquored up before a dive:shakehead:

:D you said keep our normal morning routines:mooner:

I am just guessing here but IMO energy drinks give you the wrong kind of pick me up.

I also think that they would also possibly lead to anxiety onset in a stressful situation. I am not a doctor but I have had my share of energy drinks and after a couple I feel like a raged crack addict.

If you want energy for your dive;

Eat right, drink plenty of fluids, have a protein shake in the morning etc.

I wake up take a couple tablespoons of bee pollen every day and then have a protein shake. Durring the dive I drink water and if I feel I need it I consume a gator aid or drink with a little sugar in it.
