That depends on the user. To install that, you pretty much need to disassemble most of, if not all of the first stage, depending on in there is a specific installation order for the part.

I bought the reg today and the LDS will install the cold water kit for a very nominal fee. Works for me!

I have not seen the edge epic up close but from looking at the parts in the kit I get the impression the new part holds the spring adjustment pad in addition to the external seal.

That will mean you would need an Intermediate Pressure (IP) gauge to properly check and the reset the IP to the same starting intermediate pressure. The IP needs to be within a specificed range (normally 120-145 psi) and unless you get it accurately reset within 3-5 psi, you would probably need to readjust the second stages as well.

So in short, installing the kit would be an easy 5 minute job, but only if you have an IP gauge and have a basic idea what you are doing.

Its easy if you know what your doing

Did you buy all the parts already or does your LDS carry them? Im assuming you didnt buy the reg from them, or they would have installed for free.....

Not quite free but close enough. About $30 installed.

I wasn't sure my LDS had the parts when I posed the question. However, they had them in stock and will have the regulator available for pickup by Friday. Just in time for whatever we plan for the weekend.

It's a graduation present for my grandson (10) who just got certified. I figure it is an entry level regulator, perfectly capable of handling his limited depth (40'). It will be treated rather badly over the next few years. Later on, I'll break down and spend more serious money on an upgrade.
