Ber Rabbit:
Glad to hear everyone is ok. I'm a little confused though so someone help a lifetime non-earthquake area (though we have a huge fault) resident out. It sounds like power was out for a max of 24 hours (even if it was 72 hours for that matter) why is that a big deal? People hunting for food? Price gouging on batteries? For a few hours of no power? Help me understand.

Well to start off I was headed to the harbour when it hit. When I arrived at the harbour, the Coast Guard had called a Tsunami Warning. I warned our divers and everyone headed to higher ground. I then went and checked on Justleesa. When it was announced that there was no real Tsunami coming, I worked my way home, and unplugged everything electrical. Last time we had electrical problems, we lost two computers, and a phone system when the power surged back on.
According to the radio, on the one station that was broadcasting anything, it took 2 hours till there were reports of Price gouging, and 4 till there were reports of Gas stealing.
I listened all day just in case there was a Tsunami Alert
I wandered around Waikiki, from time to time, and really felt for the tourists, no food, no water, no working phones, no elevators, only a few open ABC stores, letting in a couple of people at a time.
Aloha

I doubt that anyone here can really speak from past experiences, which is a good thing.

Took this picture last night Al, it was choppy and dirty

Still looks like paradise to me Lisa.

I'm curious to hear a dive report from today, as long as there aren't storms going on I suspect things will be normal down there.

I'm so glad there no major fatalities or major injuries.. I heard of some minor injuries and such but living in California and through the Northridge one, it could have been worse... I feel for everyone.. It can be so scary... And you have so many tourists, it can really throw a person off.... I was there in Honolulu for 4 days last year... Loved it.....I did a 7 day cruise on the Pride of America.... Wonder how the cruise ships are handling all this???? At least they have their own power source on board so the passengers are taken care of...

Justleesa,
Any chance that photo was taken on Waikiki beach??? Looks like the same one I took last year.....lol.......

I got a report last night about the Sunday afternoon charter here in Kona. very little change to no change was reported in the topography, and the same animals were in the same locations.

Division of Aquatic Resources (DAR) will be diving K-bay to check in the landslide area and comparing the video footage from a previous dive. From what I heard from divers yesterday, all is fine. But DAR will have the final say on that.

As I stated in another post... If you were to arrive today in Kona, you would have no idea anything occured yesterday.

Once again I felt like I got caught with my pants down here. In Alaska, I have food, water, fuel and shelter for weeks if not months without outside help. I also have enough guns and ammo to get food and protect what I have. Here, food and water for a couple of days, a week at best and no way to defend it. I HATE that feeling.
Once again the scum of the islands came out in force as they do every chance they get. Im waiting to see the crime reports from yesterday.
No deaths, few injuries...Dodged the bullet once again here.

I was in bed and thought, "Oh we're having an eathquake". Then, like chepar, I thought I would just stay in bed. Then a few things fell and something broke during the 2nd shake so I got up. I went downstairs (no elevator) and it was raining. I thought "Jeesh, I may as well be in Seattle".

Anyway, I went to the beach, walked to Waikiki (sorry I didn' see you guys, Leesa), read. It was a relaxing day. My cell battery was low so I turned it off. When I turned it back on, most of my large family had called and were concerned. Our power came on around 8:30. Still no elevator this morning for some reason. I'm sure that will be solved before I get home tonight.

I'm sorry for the damage and injuries, though. I know earthquakes are scary for most people.
