Haven't seen anyone respond yet, so I thought I would say hello. Duluth is on Lake Superior, and I have never dove there. I know several people that dive Lake Michigan wet, at least in the summer, but not with the kind of wet suit they use way down in Florida. You would need 7mm.

Of course, Great Lakes diving is all about wrecks.

Maybe someone familiar with that area can chime in.

Welcome to the Great Lakes Wrecking Crew! :-)

Sorry I havent been online alot latly. there are some good wrecks near Duluth. the Madera is a easy shore dive. most dives are easyer by boat.
when do you plan to come up? we may have a group headed that way.
it may also be a good chance to rent a dry suit and pick up some training. wet suits are ok but if you are used to warm water you may not want to do repeat dives wet.

Hi JW, I live in up north here in MN and go diving in Lake Superior fairly often. Feel free to send me a PM when you get up here and we'll see if we can hook you up. It is possible to dive Superior in a wetsuit, but to be honest I'd worry about you doing so if you're coming from Florida. You would need a 7mm, plus gloves, hood, etc. The water temp is always cold, and sometimes really cold, depending on what the winds are doing. I actually did a couple dives on the wreck of the Madiera today, beautiful day and the water was 36 F. In summer you might get lucky and hit 60 F (at the surface, still 40-45 F at any depth) but it might also be 40 F (surface).
