DSS BP/W Cold Water

I'm looking at getting one of Tobin's excellent BP/W set ups this week and I just wanted to see if any other Canucks (Canadians) take these things into cold water. I have been diving in some dark, cold lakes and a couple times and have hit waters cold as 37 F (3 Celisus). Given all the great stuff I hear about DSS I would imagine this not a problem at all, but still would like to hear about it.

I have used my DSS wing and plate in water from 38 to 86 degrees over the past two years with no problems related to temperature. I did punch a hole in my Taurus wing once and sent it to Tobin who repaired and returned it a few days later. I hope to wear my wing out in the next few hundred dives. I will likely buy another at that time.

Not in canada but I've had mine in about the same range of temps as Rogue. 39 in Lake Erie to 95 in Mt Storm. No problems at all.

DSS singles and doubles wings/plates down to 35F, with waters usually in the 40s and 50s. Works great.

I love the extra bolt-on weight plates for my DSS plate, though I modified them so that I can easily use them on the side of the plate facing my back for various reasons (so they don't interfere with the STA, wings and add so I get a little extra depth for my sausage weight).

I dive my DSS rigs ... both singles and doubles ... in temps between about 40F to 55F. Got several hundred dives on various size and style wings (Torus and LCD). They perform wonderfully.

When the water is that cold, the backplate will freeze up and become brittle. The danger here is that it might break while on a dive.

Get yourself a good jacket style bcd.
