Hello all,

I am just transitioning into cold water diving. I was measured for a custom drysuit but the seller told me that the factory said not to bother with a custom size and that a MS would fit me well. I received the suit and am thinking its too big. What do you think? I've attached several pictures.

The legs look a bit big maybe the arms, diveable for an off the rack suit. It will suck to you closely but managing the bubble will take some time to manage, weighting will be critical.

what are you wearing under the suit? it'll look and feel a lot different wearing it naked vs the appropriate underwear for cold water diving.
In this case I was only wearing shorts under the suit. Not even a t-shirt. I don't have undergarments yet but I could try wearing something that is the approximate size of undergarments and give it another go.
I did a few dives and a deco dive in a rental suit that was quite large and didn't have any problems so maybe this one will be alright as well.

Yes this is what I'm worried about. Not sure why the factory turned down money for a custom made size... maybe overstock? I'm going to ask about alterations.
I'm hoping to train for Trimix next so need to get a properly fitted suit.

The suit is sized good. When you put a 400-500g undersuit beneath you will see. It will fill up, and the squeeze will keep you streamlined.

It's better to have it smidge larger, so the undergarment can properly loft, and have it tight and compress the garment.

Don't rush with the alterations until you try your suit with an undergarment.

This is how my custom made drysuit fits w/o any garments. And when I try it with even the thinned garment I use, it fits much better. With the full thickness garment your suit will fill up, and still have space to loft.

Also, trilam is non strech, and it it's too tight, you will stress and fatigue the material too much when donning and doffing.

And I fouind a picture with summer garment on
You can see tha the legs are much less baggy and the arms too.
Also here is the picture underwater

I tried my off the rack suit with a thin merino underlayer, and thicker sweatpants and sweater, you can skip the underlayer since it's form fitting, but I would definitely try it on with a layer or 2 of thicker clothing to get a real feel for it

I've had off the peg drysuits before. Legs were a bit baggy and the bubble getting into the legs really sucked. I used some gators to control that bubble. Worked good, the bubble would only go as far as the knee which is much more controllable than going to the foot.

That is an option if you need it.

My custom cut suit feels baggy when I’m wearing super thin undergarments, but fits perfectly with thicker ones. Try it on with some undergarments before you go cutting up the suit.
