On the last dive I grabbed some sharp objects and ALMOST cut a couple of holes in my dry gloves. I was wondering if anyone had done any successfull repairs to drygloves. Perhaps some of that "Shoe goo"? I'd hate to flood my suit as the areas on the gloves that are thin won't stand up to much more abuse. If replacement is the only option then a recomendation for replacements would be appreciated.

Thanks

Aquaseal will work on most gloves, although it will leave clumps of glue on the inside or outside of the glove.

For the blue smurf gloves, I use PVC glue from the local hardware store. There are a few different kinds- I use the clear flexible stuff. The PVC glue is a solvent weld. I'm not sure of the details, but I know that it doesn't leave big clumps of glue right where you want the most tactile response. (I also bought a respirator since there were lots of warnings on the can!)

What kind of gloves do you have?

I've used Aqual Seal on the neoprene dry gloves in the past. Also, tool dip, a product for covering tool handles does a pretty good job and it comes in some pretty cool colors. You can get it at Home Depot.

The gloves are the blue smurf type. "Do it easy", would you happen to have a brand name? Thanks.

It's made by Oatey- medium clear flexible PVC cement.

I bought the small 4oz can, which by my estimates, should be a lifetime supply. I also bought a small can of cleaner to prep the surface.

There is a thread that even has a picture of something similar here.

Has anyone tried tire patches? I've never tried them on smurf gloves, but I use these all the time on bicycle tires and they work incredibly well. No glue to mess with. Just roughen the surface with the sandpaper and stick on the little sticker. Not sure how well it would stick on the textured surface of the glove, but it might be an easier temporary field repair instead of gluing. They come off pretty easily if you wanted to do a better glue job when you get back home. You can find them in any bike shop.

on my last vehicle recovery, i ran my right hand glove down the wrecker cable and punctured my glove in two places. (Blue smurfs) I forgot about it until our next recovery. While packing up gear, I remembered the holes. The fastest thing i could think of was superglue. As the superglue dried, it became cloudy. After a few layers it was good to go. It was supposed to be a temporary fix, but i've got 3 dives on them with no leaks. (one was a puncture, one small tear)

Why?

Use the right glue for the job. The smurf gloves are made of PVC, so use PVC glue. Its fast and works.

For neoprene or rubber gloves, use Aquaseal and cotol.
