After about killing myself trying to get into a rental 7mm one piece full suit with no success, can anyone tell me if a farmer john is any easier to donn and doff than a one piece? I have had a couple other 7mm suits on and although they took some work to get into I could at least get them on and off alone. This one was obviously just to small.

Seems like a farmer john would be easier to donn and doff.

I don't think a farmer john suit would be any easier or harder by design, but more dependent on fit as with the one piece. You could get a lycra skin which would help any suit glide on.
Lot's of newer suits have a "glideskin" or slick interior intended to help with donning, but the slightest moisture, like sweat, and they seize up terribly. The lycra - or if you are very self confident, pantyhose, would help here as well.

Good Luck,

Now there's a mental picture I could have gone the rest of my life without... :D

I second the suggestion to wear a lycra dive skin under the suit. A Henderson gold core suit, though more expensive, slides on more easily--and dries faster between dives, too.

I've also seen a couple divers put a plastic supermarket shopping bag on the hand or foot that they are about to shove through their suit and they say this helps. You pull the bag on through after the limb is in the suit.

The bag idea works as well as rolling up the leg and arm a bit before putting it on. I have had people argue with me that it doesn't help...until I prove them wrong.

Although I can't vouch for its warmth or durability, I tried on a 7 mm Henderson Hyperstretch the other day and was absolutley amazed at how easy it was to put on compared to the other suits.

Maybe someone else can speak to the issues of warmth and durability.

In the old days, we either wore pany hose or sprayed ourselves with soapy water. It was not a pretty sight! :11:

Ahhh, I remember those days well! I didn't ever do the pantyhose, but I did stoop to "dance skins." You meet "interesting" men going to the shops that sell those! Thank goodness for dive skins! LOL

I also remember wearing pink shirts during that era. At least I had the foresight not to wear a pink polo shirt to the dive site AND THEN proceed to slip into a pair of panty hose!

I was tough enough to do one or the other, but not tough enough to do both at the same time. ;)

Lycra skins, plastic bags, panty hose, sex lube, talcum powder, suit snot, whatever turns you on. Don't be hesitant. :eyebrow:
